Not all palm trees are “trees,” and not all plants called “palms” are truly palms.
Palms are evergreen plants, and in addition to taking the form of trees, palms can also grow in the form of shrubs or long, woody vines called lianas.
Plants like the yucca palm, Torbay palm, sago palm and traveler’s palm, while commonly called palms, are not truly part of the Arecaceae (palm) family.
